Beer Battered deep fried Blooming Onion Flower
Instructions:
Prep the onion:
- Remove the dry outer part of a large onion
- Slice a tiny part off the bottom, root end, so the onion can stand.
- Slice the onion almost all the way through to the bottom, with 4 perpendicular slices.
- Remove most of the center core, leaving the bottom attached.
- Soak in ice water several hours or over night. This will open up the slices.
- Drain and dry well, at least 30 minutes to a couple hours.
Seasoned Flour Ingredients: Mix Together
Enough batter for several onions, or other vegis too
- 2 c flour
- 2 t paprika
- 1 t cayenne
- 1 t pepper
- 1 t vegetable broth powder (or 1/2 t each garlic powder, and onion powder)
- 1/2 t poultry seasoning (or mixed sage, thyme, rosemary)
You will also need the liquid from a can of garbonzo beans
Yep, garbonzo bean liquid.... Chickpea liquid...
It acts just like an egg white and helps glue the batter on to the onions!
You can use a little plain soymilk, (with only soybeans and water on the label), if you absolutely cannot do the garbonzo liquid... but it doesn't work as well

Directions:
