BEST EVER bread sticks


  • Mix 1 pkg yeast with 1/4 C warm water. Set aside
  • Mix 3 1/2 - 4 + C flour
  • 1 T sugar
  • 1 t salt
  • 14 T cold margarine, cut into flour
  • Blend in 2/3 C ice water
  • Knead gently until smooth
  • Dont let the heat of your hands melt the margarine
  • Form 3 balls, rise 1 hour
  • roll flat 1/3" 6 x 12
  • slice into 20 strips
  • Bake 350 10-12 minutes until golden.
  • optional (brush with margarine and garlic salt or just salt)

Tips: wolf paw printGreat on their own, or serve with a spaghetti sauce to dip into.

Serve them standing upright in a tall mug or similar


Basic Bread sticks

  • proof 2 yeast in ¼ c warm water
  • Add:
  • 1 C warm water
  • 1 t salt
  • 1 T sugar
  • 3+ c flour
  • Rise. Punch.
  • Divide and roll into 40 sticks
  • Greased sheet
  • Rise.
  • Spray with oil and poppy seeds or sesame seeds seeds/course salt
  • Bake 300 45 minutes.

Great Overnight herbed bread sticks

  • Mix/proof 1 pkg yeast
  • 1 C warm water
  • 1 T sugar
  • Mix: 1 ½ t salt
  • ½ t basil
  • ½ t oregano
  • 1 t garlic powder
  • 1 ½ t parsley
  • 1/3 C shortening
  • 1 ½ C flour
  • >Mix all. Knead, add more flour until not sticky.
  • Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight
  • Divide into 4 then 12 each roll pencil thin.
  • brush with oil and sprinkle with seeds or course salt.
  • Let rise.
  • Bake 375 15 minutes or til done
