Some of the birds and animals we saw in Glacier Bay

Starting with the Marble islands. Bird and sea lion sanctuary close to the drop off point for the trip. Taken from the day boat...

We always kept a distance from all animals, including birds, so not to disrupt their natural behavior.

We saw Birds and Brown Bears every day! Plus saw Harbor seals, stellar sea lions, humpback whales, porpoises, Lots of otters too. There were more otters by the glaciers than seals!

Note: Harbor seal populations are declining, while otters are increasing. Otters were hunted to near extinction. Then were protected and reintroduced to SE alaska in the early 1070s. They have since made it into Glacier Bay and are taking over a lot of the Bay. There is a lot less crab and Sea Stars now because of this. We should expect the otter population to fall on their own, after awhile, when they eat most of their available food, then find a balance, as how nature works....
